In America, pizza is the only language that all kids can speak. In fact, the parents must make sure that their kids can eat pizza, otherwise it would be very difficult for their kids to participate in any type of social activities that involve food, because, chances are, pizza would be served. It must be hard for kids who are lactose intolerant or allergic to gluten.

ut as a person in charge of the food for American kids, pizza is a godsend. As long as you serve pizza, you are absolved of all responsibilities. There is a kid who doesn’t like pizza? Not your problem. Everyone would agree that it’s the kid who is strange, not your decision to serve pizza. But if you serve, say, quiche, more than half of the kids would dissect it and leave it. Your kid’s friends would never come over again. You’ll be known to serve strange food, and your child would be embarrassed at school.

That’s why we only serve pizza whenever our daughter has a sleepover party.
