Food for Thought

Queens Taco Crawl - Part 1. This is the first of the two locations we tried today based on the recommendations by @foodandfootprints. Both were equally good but different in style.

What both locations have in common is that they are grocery stores, not restaurants. If you think about it, it makes sense that these specialty grocery stores would have the most authentic preparations of any cuisines. The vast majority of customers at Mexican grocery stores would naturally be Mexican or people whose taste for Mexican food is so discriminating that they have to shop at Mexican specialty stores.

@indojavagroceries is another good case in point. It’s an Indonesian grocery store that serves food in the back on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Some locations of Sunrise Mart (Japanese grocery chain) serve food too. Sariling Atin is also a grocery store that serves authentic Filipino food in the back. Because their clientele consists of the native consumers of these food products, there is no reason why they should compromise the authenticity
