Art and Context

As per Wittgenstein, just because the word for “salt” just happens to sound identical in two entirely different languages, it does not mean that you speak both languages when you happen to accidentally pronounce that word at the right time. Being able to speak a language, is to understand its spatiotemporal context. It’s meaningless to isolate a word. In the same way, it’s meaningless to isolate an artwork. We need to look at the life and the career of that artist, in order to understand the context in which he made his expressions.
