The Folly of Trying to Be Wanted

So late in life, I’m realizing the pretty obvious fact: Trying to be wanted doesn’t get us any closer to what we want in life. Constantly acquiring knowledge, skills, and tools to be more desirable to others is a distraction from achieving what we want. We are distracted because we don’t know what we want. Instead of figuring out what we want now, we put it off until retirement.
