It appears that parents who are critical of subjective matters, like taste and social skills, produce an insecure child because there could never be any definitive resolution to the self-doubts instigated by them. On the other hand, parents who are critical of objective matters seem to produce an arrogant child because, through their criticism, all the gray areas of life are systematically translated into black-and-white terms as if everything in life can be logically reduced.
