Efficiency and Perfection

There is a single best solution for both efficiency and perfection, which means everyone’s pursuit of both ends up with the same, ubiquitous outcome.

The perfect face based on the golden ratio ends up looking the same and, therefore, boring. An imperfection grabs our attention and makes us want to chase perfection; it stimulates our desires.

Creativity is about making unexpected connections. Because there is only one straight path to perfect efficiency, you can’t make unexpected connections along the way. So, an efficient environment is not conducive to creativity.

Both cases demonstrate that we ultimately enjoy the path, not the destination.
